Environmental Policy
![]() |
Geneva National Golf Club is striving to continually improve our practices to be more and more environmentally friendly. Geneva National is proud to be one of only three golf courses in the state (and the only one in Lake Geneva) to be awarded the TRAVEL GREEN WISCONSIN Certification for our environmental efforts. As a Club, we continually look for “green opportunities.” Some of our programs with the greatest impact are: |
- In our offices, we recycle paper, cartridges and other appropriate items.
- In our facilities, we are in the process of changing all light bulbs to energy efficient compact fluorescents. We control our heating and cooling to ensure that “unoccupied” areas are not kept to occupied standards.
- In our food and beverage operations, we use organic and locally grown foods whenever possible. Our kitchens and restaurants recycle appropriate materials whenever possible.
- On our golf courses, we recycle rainwater for irrigation through our retaining ponds. We monitor our rough areas that serve as natural runoff features for nearby lakes and streams. We use organic products on the golf course when possible, and monitor soil samples to avoid unnecessary fertilization.
- In the summer of 2009, we replaced our Golf Cars with a new model that regenerate power, thus reducing the charge time and our carbon footprint. Estimates say we should save nearly 150,000 KWH per year.
Geneva National Now Partipates in the National Audubon Society's Golf Course Maintenance Programs!
Geneva National is proud to announce that we are participating in the National Audubon Society’s recommendations and programs concerning Golf Course Maintenance. Certain areas in the rough will be grown out and specifically maintained to Audubon standards in order to help conserve and restore natural ecosystems, focusing on birds and other wildlife for the benefit of humanity.
Audubon program helps golf courses to enhance wildlife habitats and protects natural resources for the benefit of people, wildlife, and the game of golf.
In addition to simply growing out some rough areas, the National Audubon Society programs involve specific goals, including: Environmental Planning in order to balance the demands of golf with our responsibility to the natural environment, help to protect the quality of the environment and care for the water, land and wildlife habitats upon which our course is sustained and includes managing woodlands, ponds, rough and golf play areas; Enhancing natural areas and landscaping on the golf course to protect and improve native habitats and the wildlife that depend on them for survival; Reducing the use of chemicals on the course, and more immediately, reducing the impact of chemicals on the environment through safe practices and natural filtration plans; Conserving water by reducing irrigation needs and protecting natural run off areas; Ensuring cleaner water supplies and protecting the health and integrity of water bodies is an essential component of showing your commitment to the environmental stewardship; and also performing outreach and education initiatives in order to ensure ongoing support for stewardship, strengthen local community connections, and extend participation in environmental conservation activities.
